Where can I upload my video?
I'd prefer the Ubuntu Video YouTube Group. If you make it available there you can be sure that I can both see and post your video.

Do I have to upload my video to YouTube?
No. That's the most convenient (for me) service but you can use Google Video, Dailymotion, or others which feature embeddable players.

If you support open source why do you display these videos in a non-open format like Flash?

YouTube and Google offer the libraries of existing video which make this project possible, in it's intial form, but we might be able to steer video creators to new services as it evolves. However, it's also important to note that YouTube and Google can provide significant amounts of exposure. In my opinion we should work to support open source alternatives but not at the expense of ignoring those huge audiences.

Hopefully, a robust FOSS alternative to sites like YouTube and Google Video will emerge. If you'd like to take part in that effort the Free Software Foundation is a good place to start.

Thanks to Robin "Roblimo" Miller of OSTG, Inc., the Blender Foundation, and others I am able to bring you a few Ubuntu videos that do not require the Flash plugin. You'll find those in the "Flash free" section of the right sidebar. Please fell free to contact me and suggest additional sources.

How often are new videos added?
A new video is added daily. Sometimes a bit more frequently.

Why didn't you use my video?
There are a few possible resons.

1. I may not know it exists. Upload it to the YouTube group or send me a URL and I'll take a look at it.

2. The site is updated daily. I may have plans to use your video in the near future.

3. Poor quality. If your camera is out of focus, you use excessive profanity, or if your video isn't interesting or informative then I may not be able to post it.

Why not _InsertFavoriteDistro_Video?
I hope you're compelled to go and start RedHatVideo, SuseVideo, SlackwareVideo, and so on. Please do so. I'll even link to you if the site's presentable and maintained. I support all efforts to introduce Linux to the world's computer users. Ubuntu just happens to be my favorite flavor.

I'd like to submit an application tutorial but I run another distro. Will you post it?
If it's well made there's a good chance that I will.

Do you get paid for this?
Nope. In fact it costs me money. Hosting fees and bad decision making are only supported by my bank account.

Do You Work for Ubuntu?
No. Ubuntu isn't a company. You're thinking about Canonical Ltd. But I don't work for them either. I'll admit that I do sometimes check their online job postings and if they ever post a position that requires running an Ubuntu video website I'm totally applying. I am a member of the community run marketing team and I am an Ubuntu member but surprisingly I created this site before joining. They're great people though. Their input helped shape this site into the format you see today.

Why do you do this?
I've benefited tremendously from the work of open source developers and sponsors. This is my way giving something back to the community.

You're awesome. Will you come work for us?
Have your people send my people an email. My people, which happens to be me at the moment, will get back to you.
